Cost Engineering Knowledgebases

If cost engineering is the art of assigning value to that which has been or will be engineered, the cost data you use for that process determines whether or not your value has any worth. With over 30 years of experience in cost engineering, we know exactly what factors determine the success of your projects.

Your cost data needs to be trustworthy and up to date at all times. For this reason Cost Engineering partners with reputable organizations that are continually monitoring the quality of their data. These organizations get their information from different sources in the market. That way you can benefit from a wealth of experience that has been gained by executing all kinds of projects, all over the world.

"Because the value of your estimate is
determined by the quality of your cost data."

Whether you are considering our standard knowledgebases or our third party knowledgebases, all our data is ready to be used in Cleopatra Enterprise. However, we do understand that there can be cost data which is exclusive to your organization that you would want to use in your cost engineering process. For this reason we offer a service to convert your cost data into a knowledgebase for Cleopatra Enterprise. Our consultants are always available to explain to you how this conversion works and how your data can be used in Cleopatra Enterprise.

DACE Labour Norms

The Dutch Association of Cost Engineers is the driving force behind the DACE Labour Norms CD. This CD provides guidance in the use of labour norms for estimating in all kinds of disciplines that are involved in the construction and maintenance of industrial production facilities. DACE recommends owners and suppliers to use the DACE Labour Norms as a standard to avoid misunderstandings and disputes. To use the DACE Labour Norms to easily make your estimates, Cost Engineering has converted the documents on the CD to a knowledgebase which can be used in Cleopatra Enterprise. This allows you to work with the DACE Labour Norms faster and more effectively.

Data qualifications

Every knowledgebase you purchase at Cost Engineering will be accompanied by a set of descriptions explaining the approach that was taken in gathering the cost data and the conditions that apply to the use of the data. Amongst other things, location and productivity factors, indirect costs, overheads, profit and risk, condition factors and efficiency factors have been taken into consideration. Knowing these conditions enables you to make the most of the cost data you use in your estimates.

DACE Price Booklet - 27th edition

The first DACE-Price Booklet (Prijzenboekje) was already released in 1959. The booklet, published by Reed Business, is a unique document, because it shares knowledge in the area of methods and techniques for estimating cost and time. It contains know-how of cost experts and cost engineers of a representative group of the Dutch industry. All cost information is validated on a yearly basis with respect to recent investments. The published cost figures and metrics are derived from the actual execution cost, not based on catalogue prices. This is due to the fact that participants in the required cost data gathering are actively involved in new investment projects and maintenance activities.

Dace Labour Norms

The Labour Norms CD issued by DACE, the Dutch association of Cost Engineers, provides guidance in the use of Labour Norms for estimating in all kinds of disciplines that are involved in the construction and maintenance of industrial production facilities. The DACE Labour Norms give consideration to location (productivity) factors, indirect costs, overheads, profit & risk, condition factors and/or efficiency factors. DACE strongly recommends that owners and suppliers adhere to the DACE Labour Norms set to avoid misunderstanding and dispute.

Cost Engineering has converted the DACE Labour Norms CD to a knowledgebase that can be used with Cleopatra Enterprise. This means you are now able to use this industry standard data for your estimates. In the more extensive Cost Engineering standard knowledgebases, price information has been added to the Labour Norms. This allows you to base your estimates on the industry standards of the DACE Labour Norms CD combined with the experience in pricing of Cost Engineering. This makes the DACE Labour Norms based knowledgebases a golden combination with Cleopatra Enterprise.

Piping Composites Europe (DACE)

The Cost Engineering knowledgebase with information on piping composites for Europe contains combinations of multiple unit-rates for fast estimating purposes. The knowledgebase Piping Composites Europe is composed by using parameters defined by Cost Engineering based on historical information. The piping composites are piping systems up to 24” containing pipe, fittings, flanges, and valves either with or without insulation or personal protection for carbon steel, stainless steel, and high alloy piping such as duplex, alloy 20 and hastelloy. These piping systems are built up with unit-rates and contain all the components from putting up the first support to final testing.

Maintenance

After purchasing a knowledgebase, you are guaranteed your data is up to date. However, over time the market changes and your purchased knowledgebases will become outdated. For this reason Cost Engineering offers maintenance on its standard knowledgebases. This gives you an updated version of the knowledgebase as it becomes available so you are always using the latest data for your estimates.

Maintenance is needed for your company specific database as well. Cleopatra Enterprise offers you the opportunity to maintain that knowledgebase yourself. Cost Engineering offers a specific data management training which teaches you the best way to keep your knowledgebase up to date. Cost Engineering can also support you in maintaining your company specific database.

Piping BoQ-Rates Europe (DACE)

The Cost Engineering knowledgebase with information on piping Bill of Quantity (BoQ) rates for Europe contains combinations of multiple unit-rates for fast estimating purposes. The knowledgebase Piping BoQ-Rates Europe is composed by using parameters defined by Cost Engineering based on historical information. The BoQ-Rates are piping components up to 24” either with or without insulation or personal protection for carbon steel, stainless steel, and high alloy piping such as duplex, alloy 20 and hastelloy. These piping components are built up with unit-rates and contain all the components from putting up the first support to final testing.
